5 of the best iPhone photography apps

First up I will apologise to all those android users who may not have access to these apps. But I can only recommend those I’ve actually tried and tested and my phone of choice happens to be an iPhone.

And it’s something that goes everywhere with me. I am constantly snapping away and whilst I love great photography and those fabulous blurry shots we bloggers aspire to, dragging a DSLR around town with me is just too much of a bind the majority of the time. I want the ability to capture blog-worthy shots of those instantaneous moments in my life.

So I’ve had to make friends with my iPhone’s photography capabilities and I was so surprised to learn how many little tricks there are to take great shots. They are by no means the quality you get from the DSLR but great for on-the-move.

Iphone photography is just one of the topics we cover on our Dream. Find. Do workshops, so look out, there’s an announcement landing on these pages in the next day or so about our next round of dates you don’t want to miss it.

For now here’s a flavour of the iPhone photography apps I’ve been giving a whirl lately:

Dream Find Do, Blogging, Bloggers, Blog Workshop, iPhone Apps, Photography, Photography for bloggers, Iphoneography, Picture Show, Instaflash, Gelo, Decim8, Afterglow (1)

PICTURE SHOW // Dozens of built-in filters, frames and the ability to add noise, texture and light leak effects. plenty of possibilities and a pretty easy-to-use app. The lomography and vivid filters are my favourites, along with the ability to add text to images.  I also spent ages playing around the various blur options for some cool effects. An all rounder that’s worth exploring.

INSTAFLASH // Quickly becoming one of my favourite tools, particularly during those dark and dreary months we’ve just had when having decent light for a photograph has been rarer than rocking horse dooda. Does what it says on the tin: adds natural-looking illumination to your photos without the horrid effects a normal phone flash would give. (Point to note I never use my phone flash!)

GELO //  Lets you add coloured gels, shape overlays and gradients to your images as well as enhancing colours and adding atmosphere to your images. A great app with lots of potential, see their fotosyn blog for loads of tutorials to get the most out of it.

DECIM8 // These guys are advocates for pushing the boundaries of the digital realm, they laugh in the face of vintage effects, preferring to ‘Destroy to Create’. It’s quite a mad one but if you’re a fan of the surreal and sublime then this is the app for you. I actually quite like this one although it takes a lot of playing around with it to get the hang of how it works. There’s a  dedicated Decim8 photography flickr group, check it out for inspiration.

Apologies for the #selfie too, I was running out of things to snap to test these apps out with.

AFTERGLOW  // Lots of filters, lens flare and bokeh effects. But my favourite of all is the choice of frames available from circle to oval, rectangle to diamond. A really good range of editing apps available and connects directly to your social media channels including Instagram.

So there you have it, this is by no means an exhaustive list, there are literally hundreds of apps out there, with new ones appearing on the scene daily. I tend to use a few at a time, but always revert back to my old faithfuls. The main one being picfx as it’s just so easy to use, and then I always post them through to Instagram.  I’ve previously covered 5 of the best Instagram apps too.

Do you use any of the apps I’ve mentioned? or are there others you find that are better? discovered something amazing, then tell us all about it in the comments box below.

Laters peeps, new workshop dates announced this weekend! Can I get a Whoop Whoop?

Michelle xx
